The Details & Dough

First time visitors:  Check Out the Studio on us!
Cameron, your engineer, will set up a 2 hour demo session.  90 minutes will be allotted to recording, and another 30 minutes to mix and listen.  If you’re not happy with the mix, whether or not you decide to do future projects at Big Toe Studios, you pay nothing.  If you want to take home the demo mix from that day, the charge will be $40.

Once you decide to become a Big Toe Studios client and record your project with us, here is our Current Day Rate structure:
•    3 Hours:  $90
•    6 Hours:  $150

Big Toe Studios requires no deposit, but the client is expected to pay at the start of each session.  One burned CD is included on each day.  Each additional CD on that day is $3.

Because the studio is often tightly booked, the studio rate will be charged starting at the scheduled appointment time.  Because of this, clients are encouraged to show up 15 minutes early to have ample time to prepare for the session.

Big Toe Studios understands that support of friends and family are critical to a musician’s success, but Cameron respectfully requests that only the performers who will be recording the project come to the session.  This results in a more efficient use of studio time and the client’s investment in the project.

Cancellation with a notice of less than 24 hours (payable next visit):
•    $30 – 3 Hour
•    $50 – 6 Hour

Cameron will set up a set mixing cost at the end of mixing all tracks which will save a lot of money.  It will include 2 remixes at no cost.  The mix charge will be discussed at the end and I will take into account the number of tracks & kind of production needed.

Additional Instrumentation in your arrangements:  Cameron is a very experienced on the bass guitar and can be a studio musician for your project.  He can also play acoustic and electric guitar.  He has a treasury of samples and synthesized resources, and can program instruments such as:  Piano, organ, Mellotron, Moog and drum parts for your project.  There is no extra charge beyond using time in your day rate for Cameron’s performing/programming time.  Big Toe Studios also has resources of experienced musicians and vocalists to perform on your project and can help you coordinate appointments and fees with them.

Suggestions that can help with costs and quality of your project:
  • Practice your performance and be well prepared before you plan to record in the studio
  • Sing in tune.  Practice! (Pitch can be corrected perfectly in the mix, but takes additional billable time)
  • Communicate to Cameron articulately the goal of your project (Demo? Studio album? Production Style?)
  • New strings – Newer stretched strings stay in tune better, will mix and sound better too
  • Newer Drum Heads – Newer stretched heads will produce a more professional, quality sound
  • Well maintained equipment – You’ll want to avoid repairing/tweaking poor equipment on billable studio time
